King Bedroom Rug Size

As a general rule for a king or queen bed a 9 by 12 foot rug is ideal if you have a bench at the foot of the bed.

You want enough rug to run from an inch in front of the side tables to at least three feet beyond the end of the bed. If you don t an 8 by 10 foot rug should suffice. For a king size bed you will probably want an 8 10 rug rather than a 5 8 one. For a twin or full size bed aim for a 6 by 9 foot rug or bigger.

A king size bed is 76 x 80 inches which means a 9 x 12 foot rug will provide adequate coverage on all sides. A king size bed measures 76 inches wide by 80 inches long. Place the rug perpendicular under the bed with enough of the rug reaching out on the sides and in front to place your feet comfortably when getting out of bed or sitting at the foot. Both of these choices leave plenty of soft surface area to walk on all the way around the bed. A queen size bed measures 60 inches wide by 80 inches long. Of course you will run it longways the 10 feet will be across the bed the 8 feet will run the length of the bed and out the end. An 8 x 10 rug will allow a little more rug to show on either side of the bed plus some at the foot of the bed.

In a larger room you may have a queen size or king size bed. King sized beds are generally around 76 wide 6 4 and 80 long 6 8 so if you add two feet to the width you ve got 8 4 and a foot to the length you ve got 7 8 so therefore an 8 x10 rug is going to be cutting it pretty close dimension wise. If you have one king sized bed that is 76 wide by 80 long and two 24 nightstands a 6 x 9 rug will allow a small amount of rug to show on either side of the bed however this is not the best option. In my mbr this is 120 inches between the outside edges of the side tables but i have an eastern king bed.

This rug size is a good option to pair with the king size bed. Use these rough guidelines to choose an area rug that will look good in a big bedroom. Yes this is a waste of all the rug that is under the bed but it provides a unifying look. You can even design a cozy sitting area on top of the rug with either some ottomans or floor cushions.

But the key is to find the right area rug in the right size because an area rug that is the wrong size has the opposite effect that you want it actually takes style away from the room. Area rugs can be layered over wood floors tile broadloom wall to wall carpet and even other area rugs. A 9 x 12 rug should fit. Take into consideration the measurements of larger beds.

An 8 x 10 foot rug meanwhile is sufficient for a queen size 60 x 80 inch bed.
