To lay laminate flooring first clear out any furniture in the room you ll be laying the floor in. Installing click lock vinyl plank flooring trim the short tongue edge from the first vinyl plank. If not covering exposed edges with trim fill the gap with a high quality silicone. Because they float they can be installed over any existing floor except carpet or wood.

You won t need special equipment and can finish a 12 x 12 room in a day. This will tell you what the width of the final row of planks should be. Measure the width of the room from this wall and divide the distance by the width of the planks. Installing click together flooring or click lock hardwood flooring is an easy way to get a wood look floor without forking out the big bucks.

You ll also want to tear up any carpet in the room and remove the leftover tack strips. Therefore the first step in installing click flooring is to bring in the boards remove any packaging and give your purchased flooring time to acclimate to the conditions of your space. For a solid base planks should be laid perpendicular to the floor joists. Allow for a 3 8 inch gap along both walls to allow for expansion of the flooring.

Pre drill and install quarter round or baseboard molding. Once you lay the tongue in the groove it should click lock and fit like a glove. The longest wall is often the most ascetically pleasing and is the easiest place to start. Click boards connect to each other rather than to a subfloor.

How to install vinyl plank flooring as a beginner. Install the second plank by holding it at an angle and inserting its tongue edge into the first plank s groove edge. Install flooring parallel to the longest wall or focal point in the room. Lower the second plank to snap the planks together.

Molding must be sufficient size to cover the 1 4 space. Each piece fits together like a puzzle.
