Level concrete floor in garage.
My wife and i built a house about 10 years ago and we have a 2 car attached garage.
You can level an existing concrete floor with a leveling layer of new concrete but you must prepare the old concrete floor first.
When you re finished spread some concrete leveler primer over the floor and let it dry until it has a tacky.
And so when water drops off the car from rain or more particularly ice and snow it drops off onto the garage floor and starts to go in different low spots on the floor.
First the floor may be so out of level that the garage floor does not meet the bottom edge of the door.
It spreads across uneven slabs filling in low spots as it creates a new level surface.
Neglecting to prepare the old surface will prevent the new concrete from adhering correctly resulting in a weak bond between the two layers.
Second and far more critical is when the garage floor has begun to tilt backward toward the house.
Though concrete floors are durable your floor may develop problems over time.
A garage floor should have enough slope for it to drain but it should not have low spots that allow water to puddle.
If you have oil spots to clean scrub them with a deck brush and concrete cleaner.
This will stop resurfacer from flowing onto the driveway.
I have had a couple suggestions and both of those required removing and re pouring the entire garage.
If you need to level low spots on your floor use a concrete patching compound.
If you plan on leveling a concrete floor you can do so with relative ease by using a leveling compound.
The cleaner the concrete the better the resurfacer will stick.
My garage is sloped in two directions.
Start with a thorough sweeping.
To level concrete floors start by cleaning the floor and filling in any cracks or holes with concrete filler and sealer.
Glue weather strip to the floor exactly where the garage door rests.
The first step in leveling a garage floor is to determine the high point of the floor.
The process of leveling a garage floor doesn t need to be handled by a professional concrete contractor.
However an out of kilter garage floor may require leveling when two critical scenarios happen.
About 5 to 6 feet inside the garage door the concrete is sloped to the door and the rest of the garage is sloped towards the house.
It may not be quite level or may have dips in the surface which can make it difficult to walk across the floor or to.
Leveling out a garage floor can make it much easier to install any type of cabinetry or workbenches.
